Halfie Support

For help with Halfie, write to shelbulab@gmail.com. We aim to reply within two business days. Reports of non-consensual intimate images are handled within 48 hours; see Report a non-consensual intimate image below.

It helps to know your iPhone model and iOS version, and, if you use one, your Apple Watch model. Please never send us your Apple account password or payment details.

Getting connected

Who can use Halfie?
Adults aged 18 or over. When you sign in, Apple confirms your age range with its Declared Age Range feature; if that is not available, the app asks for your year of birth.

How do I connect with my partner?
Sign in with Apple, add your first name and city, then tap Invite them. Halfie gives you a link and a 6-character code. Send either one to your partner. When they open the link on their iPhone, Halfie opens (or the App Store, if they do not have it yet). They can also tap I have a code and type it in.

My invite does not work.
Codes use letters and the digits 2 to 9, so there is no 0 or 1 to mix up. Invites expire after a while; if yours has, create a new one. A code can only be used once, and each of you can only be connected to one person at a time, so check that your partner is not still connected to an old account.

Who can see my invite?
Anyone who has your link or code can see your first name and photo until the invite is used or expires, and whoever uses it becomes your partner. Send it only to your partner.

Every day

How do time zones work?
Halfie shows your partner's local time, weather and status from the city they set. When either of you travels or moves, update your city in Settings, Profile. The day in Halfie, for the question of the day and the streak, turns over at 4 AM rather than midnight, so late nights still count.

Where does the weather come from?
From Apple Weather. Your iPhone asks Apple for the weather at the coordinates of your partner's city; Halfie's servers are not involved. Data sources: Apple Weather.

My partner's touch only buzzed once.
That is iOS. When your iPhone is locked or Halfie is closed, a touch arrives as a notification, and iOS allows only one standard buzz for it, not a custom rhythm. Tap the notification and the touch plays exactly as it was sent. When Halfie is open, touches play live. During quiet hours (11 PM to 8 AM by default) touches arrive silently.

How do I add the widgets?
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Halfie. Lock Screen widgets are added by touching and holding the Lock Screen and tapping Customize. The partner photo widget (small) and the Miss you widget are free; every other widget and size, StandBy and the Lock Screen widgets come with Halfie Plus. If a widget looks out of date, open Halfie once to refresh it.

Does Halfie work on Apple Watch?
Yes. Install Halfie on your Apple Watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. On the watch you can hold to talk, play your partner's voice notes, and send and feel touches on your wrist. Complications show your partner's time or the days until your next visit.

Halfie Plus

Do we both need to pay?
No. One subscription covers both of you while you are connected. Either of you can buy it, and the app shows if your couple is already covered.

Is there a free trial?
The yearly plan has a 7-day free trial, one per couple. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it becomes a yearly subscription. We remind you 2 days before. The monthly plan has no trial.

What happens if we disconnect, or the payer cancels?
If you disconnect, the person who pays keeps Plus until their subscription ends, and the other person moves to the free version. If the payer cancels, Plus stays on for both of you until the end of the paid period, and the other partner can then subscribe themselves. Details are in section 10 of the Terms of Use.

I paid but do not have Plus.
Open Settings, Plan & billing and tap Restore purchases, signed in with the Apple account that paid. If Plus still does not appear, write to us with the date of purchase.

How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Halfie and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also get there from Settings, Plan & billing, Manage in App Store in Halfie. You keep Plus until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.

How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.

Private and safety

What is Private?
An 18+ space for just the two of you: messages, photos and short videos. It is off until each of you turns it on for yourself, and it opens with Face ID or your passcode every time. Photos are blurred until tapped and are view once, or kept for 24 hours with Halfie Plus. Messages are deleted after 7 days (30 days with Plus). Either of you can delete any message for both of you, or erase all of Private, at any time.

Can my partner take a screenshot?
We hide Private during screen recording and AirPlay, and we try to block screenshots where iOS allows. Apple does not offer a guaranteed way to block screenshots, so one may sometimes get through; when the app detects one, you both get told. No app can stop someone from photographing the screen with another phone. Only send what you are comfortable with your partner keeping.

What is About me?
A card with details your partner might need to surprise you: delivery address, email, sizes for clothes, shoes and rings, favorite flowers or coffee, and anything to avoid. Fill in only what you want, in Settings, About me. Only your partner sees it, and it disappears from their phone the moment either of you disconnects.

Is Private end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Messages, photos and videos in Private are encrypted on your phone, and only your and your partner's devices hold the keys. Our servers keep only the encrypted version until it is deleted, so we cannot read it. We still see when something was sent and how big it is, so that we can deliver and delete it. If you report a message, your phone sends us a readable copy with your consent. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

I received something I did not want.
Open the photo and tap Report photo. It disappears from both phones straight away, and we review it within 48 hours. You can also turn off Allow photos in Settings, turn Private off, or disconnect.

I do not feel safe with my partner.
You can disconnect at any time in Settings, without explaining why. Private is erased on both phones immediately, and your partner can no longer see anything new from you. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services.

Report a non-consensual intimate image (TAKE IT DOWN)

If an intimate image or video of you was shared on Halfie without your consent, you can ask us to remove it, whether or not you use Halfie. Someone you have authorised can also ask on your behalf.

Email shelbulab@gmail.com with the subject TAKE IT DOWN and include:

1. Your name and how to contact you. If you are writing for someone else, also say who they are and that they have authorised you.
2. Which image or video it is, and how we can find it. For example: the name, email address or city of the Halfie user who sent or received it, the approximate date, and a short description of the image. Please describe it rather than attaching it.
3. A short statement that you believe in good faith that the image or video was shared without your consent, with anything that helps us understand the situation.
4. Your signature. Typing your full name at the end of the email is enough.

Within 48 hours of receiving a valid request, we remove the image, make reasonable efforts to find and remove identical copies on Halfie, and write back to tell you what we did. If something is missing from your request, we will ask, but we do not wait for it before acting on what we can find.

If the image shows someone under 18, do not send, forward or attach it to anyone, including us. Report it to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or to your local police, and email us a description so that we can act. Young people can also use NCMEC's Take It Down service, and adults can use StopNCII.org to help stop an image spreading on participating platforms.

Your account and data

How do I disconnect from my partner?
Open Settings and tap Disconnect. Private is erased on both phones immediately. Each of you keeps your own photos; the shared history is kept for 30 days and then deleted. Your partner gets a notification.

How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and your content, disconnects your partner, erases Private for both of you and revokes Halfie's access to your Apple account. Deleting the app alone does not delete your account, and deleting your account does not cancel a subscription.

What data do you keep, and for how long?
See our Privacy Policy. In short: no ads, no tracking and no data sales; your content is kept while your account exists, Private is deleted automatically, and backups are overwritten within 30 days.

How do I make a privacy request?
Write to shelbulab@gmail.com. We answer requests to access, correct or delete your data within one month.
